Liberty: power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice

It is 3.30 in the morning. I am writing a paper, listening to drunken revelers in the building next to mine belt out What's Love Got to Do With It (FYI: it's a secondhand emotion), and cursing the ever-present rooster who is also belting out some kind of tune. Yes, I have a rooster as a neighbour, and it crows ALL DAY LONG. Earlier, when the drunken revelers were slightly less drunk, they worked their way through some of Madonna's 1980s hits. That was actually fairly enjoyable for me, although not for the guy who kept screaming at them to "SHUT THE **** UP". Hopefully he is asleep by now because Tina Turner is a bit harder to bear and their ability to sing without screeching has decreased drastically in the past hour.

I think this is a very New York moment.

To illustrate this post I present you with a picture of my brother and the Statue of Liberty, because I can't imagine when I will ever write a post that would actually suit this picture, and because my brother - admirably - knows what it's like to knock back a few and break into song.

Update: 3.54, and they've moved on to Smashing Pumpkins. Angry Man has been replaced by Angry Woman. Rooster still keeping the beat.

Hey kiddo! Hang in there man did you get your package yet? Well if its any consolation to your stress I snuck a peek at your post while an old woman was emptying her purse out on my desk and your "fyi" comment made me laugh out loud. She was a bit crazy and old & walked out on me cause she thought I was laughing at her & her purse full of crazy shit. I felt terrible. FYI she had a jar of peanut butter in her purse. I've never seen that before but I think I'll do that when I get old cause there is never a bad time for a pb&j sandwich in my books. Ok enough with the babble take care sharon !

I wouldn't hold my breath for any "packages" from the Spo. I'm still waiting for some supposed motherload of back-dated postcards and letters. After checking my mailbox first thing every morning for weeks I've finally gotten wise.

Dadi's right. That is a great photo! I'm not familiar with the book "the power of diverse people", but I'm sure it would be a perfect fit.

Nada, maybe it is a book we can pen together.

I did in fact receive Sara's package, so maybe that will renew your hope. It was free coupons for Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Although it was mailed to me by the Ben & Jerry's people, not Sara, so maybe that has something to do with its expediency. I am eating some right now - New York Super Fudge Chunk. Delicious! Thanks Sara!

You got it Zoran. Once I'm finished with this pesky PhD thing I'll get started on what promises to be an epic book. At least I have the prologue (and the cover photo) all figured out...
